Nimrod Borenstein

Nimrod Borenstein is one of today’s most distinctive and internationally acclaimed contemporary composers. His works have been commissioned, recorded and premiered at venues and festivals across the globe, from the Royal Festival Hall and Royal Opera House in London to Salle Gaveau in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York and Hong Kong City Hall.

Among his high-profile champions, Vladimir Ashkenazy has conducted several of Borenstein’s works, leading to a Chandos album of his orchestral music selected as a ‘Choice’ by BBC Music Magazine. Other leading artists and ensembles who have performed his music include Pascal Rogé, Roberto Prosseda, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, the Quartetto di Cremona, the Philharmonia, BBC Philharmonic, Oxford Philharmonic, Israel Camerata, Belgrade Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and English Chamber Orchestra.

Borenstein’s catalogue of more than 100 works spans orchestral, chamber, vocal and solo instrumental music. His ballet score Suspended, Op. 69, has received more than 250 performances worldwide, from the Edinburgh International Festival to the Taipei Arts Festival. He has also been commissioned to write works for international competitions, including the Hong Kong International Piano Competition and the International Jeunesses Musicales Competition for violoncello.

In addition to composing, Borenstein is an accomplished conductor with projects across the UK, Europe, Brazil and beyond. Gramophone praised his conducting for bringing “vivid playing from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra”, while OpusKlassiek described him as “an inspired composer and an inspiring conductor.”

Recent recording projects have included work with the English Chamber Orchestra, Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, continuing his activity both as composer and conductor.

Borenstein is a Laureate of the Cziffra Foundation and an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
