Everything practical about booking, attending and managing lessons.
How do lessons work?
Lessons are booked month by month, allowing flexibility for pupils, families and our teaching staff. Where possible, each pupil is given a regular weekly time, while changes can be arranged in advance subject to availability.
Where do lessons take place?
Lessons and masterclasses take place at our studios at Blüthner Piano Centre, 6 Baker Street, Marylebone, London W1U 3AA. Our studios are open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 6pm.
Can I book a consultation?
Yes. A first consultation is an opportunity to meet, play and discuss your previous experience, musical interests and what you would like to achieve. The consultation is complimentary. A £50 refundable booking deposit is taken when you reserve the appointment. It is returned in full after attendance and retained only in the event of a no-show.
Can I reschedule a lesson?
Yes. A lesson can be rescheduled without charge when we receive at least 72 hours' notice, subject to teacher and studio availability. With less than 72 hours' notice, the lesson is normally forfeited. In genuine cases of illness, a make-up lesson may be offered subject to availability.
Make-up lessons should normally be taken within four weeks of the original lesson, and only one make-up lesson may be carried over at a time.
What happens if I arrive late?
Lessons begin and finish at the scheduled time. If you arrive late, we will use the remaining lesson time, but the lesson cannot be extended as this would affect the teacher's following commitments.
What happens if my teacher cancels?
If a lesson is cancelled by the teacher or the Practice, a make-up lesson will always be offered. If a suitable alternative cannot be arranged, a pro-rata credit or refund will be issued.
How is tuition paid?
Invoices are issued at the beginning of each month and should be settled before lessons begin.
Do I have to take examinations?
No. ABRSM and Trinity College London examinations are available to pupils who find them useful as milestones, but examinations are never compulsory.
Do I have to perform?
No. Performance opportunities are available and encouraged, but pupils are not required to perform. The Practice organises student concerts throughout the year, and pupils may also prepare for school performances, independent recitals, auditions and other performance opportunities.
How do I discontinue lessons?
We ask for one full calendar month's written notice before the beginning of the next billing month.
