Deniz Arman Gelenbe
Deniz Arman Gelenbe has been hailed for her prodigious technique, compelling artistic personality and poetic interpretations. A versatile artist, she is active internationally as a performer, adjudicator and pedagogue.
She has performed with the Japan Philharmonic, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Slovak Chamber Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony and the Presidential Orchestra of Ankara, as well as orchestras in Turkey, the Philippines, Spain and the United States. Her solo appearances include Salle Gaveau in Paris, Tonhalle in Zurich, Wigmore Hall and St John’s Smith Square in London, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
She has performed in Europe and the United States with the Haydn, Enesco, Alexander, Borromeo, Talich and Ciompi Quartets. In 1994 she founded the Arman Ensemble and Arman Trio, which has appeared at venues including Carnegie Weill Hall and Wigmore Hall.
Gelenbe founded and directed the Semaines Musicales de Rouen and Semaines Musicales d’Orsay in France for eleven years, and founded the Chamber Arts Series and Schubertiad Series in Orlando. Her discography includes recordings for Albany, Hungaroton, Arcobaleno, Musicians Showcase and Akmuzik/EMI.
She has adjudicated international competitions including the BBC Young Musician Competition, Windsor International Piano Competition, Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition and competitions in the Czech Republic, Russia, Portugal, China, Tunisia and the United States.
As a sought-after pedagogue, she is regularly invited to give masterclasses internationally. Her students have been successful in national and international competitions, perform at venues including Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall and Kings Place, and hold academic positions in several countries.
A Turkish-French pianist, Deniz Arman Gelenbe holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Science degrees from The Juilliard School. Her teachers included Fuat Turkay, Cécile Genhart, Adele Marcus, Jane Carlson and György Sándor.
Formerly Artist-in-Residence and Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Central Florida, she joined Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2003 and served as Head of Piano and Keyboard from 2007 to 2015. She is currently Professor of Piano at Trinity Laban, has taught at Schola Cantorum in Paris, is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians and Vice President of the Chopin Society, London.
