Young Musicians

Growing through music.

Individual piano tuition for children and teenagers, developing musicality, creativity and self-discipline through a programme shaped around each pupil.

Children · Ages 6–12

Lessons introduce the piano through repertoire suited to each child's age, level and interests. Alongside playing, pupils develop the foundations of technique, music theory, ear-training and sight-reading from the beginning.

Learning progresses at the individual child's pace. ABRSM and Trinity College London examinations can form part of that journey when appropriate, but they are always optional.

Young musicians are also encouraged to perform, with opportunities to take part in recitals and concerts organised in partnership with Blüthner Piano Centre.

Teenagers · Ages 13–18

As pupils develop, lessons become increasingly independent and exploratory. Technique, tone production and phrasing are developed alongside harmony and musical analysis, helping young pianists understand not only how to play a piece, but how the music itself works.

Teenagers may work towards advanced repertoire, ABRSM or Trinity examinations, performances, music scholarships and conservatoire auditions, or simply continue developing the piano as an important part of their lives.

They are also invited to participate in performances and masterclasses with visiting and international artists.

Learning to practise

We believe artistry develops when self-discipline and self-discovery are at the heart of learning.

Talent is only one part of a successful performance. A young musician also needs to learn how to practise effectively, recognise problems, think critically and gradually become independent at the instrument.

We encourage pupils to engage closely with the score: to understand the music on the page, question what they are playing and discover the composer's intentions for themselves.
